5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling from first page to last, February 9, 2009

By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)

No Price Too Great is a novel based on a true story, about a love that transcended culture and ethnicity. A Chinese businesswoman and an American lawyer, each from dramatically different backgrounds, meet and fall in love -- together they must face titanic obstacles while trying to integrate their respective dreams into the dream of a unified family. A compelling story about confronting challenges, cultural values dissonance, and what it truly means to fall in love, No Price Too Great is enthralling from first page to last.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heartwarming Tale of Faith, Hope and a Love that Lasts a Lifetime, December 23, 2008

By R. Malove --

"No Price Too Great" is a heartwarming story of a boy from the wrong side of the tracks who finds his heart and his future in the arms of a woman halfway around the world. Born in poverty, a young Lee spent his whole life trying to escape from the binds of family and responsibility through the pages of a book. Thanks to a team of caring educators and an enterprising college admissions officer willing to take a chance on a Vietnam veteran with a tenth grade education, he finally succeeds. Lee would go on to graduate second in his class from law school, build an impressive reputation as an attorney--and meet Ping, the love of his life.

Ping was born and raised in China, where she married, bore a child and divorced before she was thirty. Struggling to raise a child on her own where such a thing was a stigma of shame, Ping nonetheless managed to become a successful businesswoman, provide her daughter with the education she thought she deserved and fall in love over the internet with a man she'd never met but knew would shape her destiny.

The course of true love doesn't always run smooth. Arriving in Guangzhou, Lee had a lot to learn about the Chinese people-and the lifetimes that can pass before a Visa is granted and a man and a woman from opposite ends of the globe can say their vows. Through endless ups and downs their relationship ebbed and flowed, until finally Ping and her daughter Cici arrived in America.

The months that followed must have been difficult for Ping and her daughter, although it's hard to tell from the author's description of Ping's upbeat personality and endless acceptance and Cici's joy in being an American teenager. Living in a strange country where the only person they knew was the man who held their future in his hands, the young family nonetheless grew and thrived to form bonds that surpassed years and cultures and developed into the kind of love that lasts for a lifetime.

I laughed and cried with the characters and the simple, no-holds-barred emotions expressed in this work of autobiographical fiction. Readers of all shapes and sizes will love the story of Lee, Ping and the life they built between them.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Cross-continental Romance, February 7, 2009

Thank you Lee Solomon for letting us travel with you on this wonderful romantic adventure. I believe I read somewhere that this book was somewhat based on a true story. If this is true, then I congratulate you Mr. Solomon, you are truly a very lucky man!

This story is about Lee, a Houston lawyer, who sets out in quest of his perfect wife. In the beginning Lee tells us about his upbringing as an impoverished youth. From here we learn that when on leave from the Vietnam war, he falls in love for the first time and it's with a Chinese woman. Since those days he has always been very fond of oriental women. So he spreads the word around to his friends and acquaintances that he is looking for a Chinese woman that would be interested in a long term relationship. Lee strikes gold when Ping emails him from China. From here we take a journey through some tough and some wonderful times trying to cut through the government red tape, the cultural differences, and the anxieties that go with a cross-continental romance.

If you are into romantic adventures, you should enjoy reading this story about Lee, Ping, and Cici: Ping's daughter. Now Lee and Ping's daughter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Strong Read, December 26, 2008

Raw, but ultimately heartwarming, this is a story of the shaping of lives, love and a family. To be honest, I didn't expect much from this book -- maybe some touching narrative and a happy ending -- and was pleasantly surprised to find a gem of a story, however simply written.

The stories of Lee, the American lawyer raised in poverty, and Ping, the Chinese mother desperate to create a better life for her daughter, intertwine in a problematic, but beautiful, way.

Reading as Ping and CiCi assimilate into American culture and into the family they created with Lee is as interesting -- and inspiring -- as these books get. And the triumph of Lee and Ping's steadfast love is quiet proof of the power a couple can hold over adversity, prejudice, and hardship.

If you're looking for a gritty, touching love story, you've found it. 'No Price Too Great' is a surprisingly strong read.
